Chocolate Oatmeal Bars
Ingredients
- Bars 1 1⁄2 C all-purpose flour
- 1 C rolled oats
- 1 C firmly packed light brown sugar
- 3⁄4 C softened butter
- 1⁄2 tsp baking soda
- 1⁄2 tsp salt
- Filling-1 C semisweet morsels
- 1⁄2 C chopped pecans, optional

Heat oven to 350°.
In a large bowl, combine all bar ingredients and use an electric mixer or pastry blender to mix until crumbly.
Reserve 1 cup of crumb mixture.
Press the rest in the bottom of a lightly greased 9- by 13-inch or similar baking pan. Bake 15 minutes.
Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate morsels; let them stand 3 minutes.
Spread them smooth. Sprinkle with pecans and press lightly.
Crumble reserved crumb mixture over the top and bake 20 minutes.
Cool slightly before cutting into 24 squares.
