Wilderness Trail Distillery’s fifth charity chili cook-off

Wilderness Trail Distillery’s fifth Charity Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Sept. 24, is a great way to usher in the fall season and enjoy some delicious chili for a good cause. If you bring the family, consider it a way for kids to help other kids while enjoying some family-friendly activities.

The event, with tasting beginning at 11:30 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m., continues to benefit the Danville Kiwanis Club whose mission is to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children throughout the community. The Kiwanis also serve Boyle County’s senior citizens. The chili cook-off features music by DJ Reece, refreshing drinks, sweet treats, and children’s activities and more, creating the perfect fall event. Family activities include a vendor providing horse and wagon rides, facepainting, and visiting the Boyle County Public Library’s bookmobile for book giveaways and information about upcoming events. We know children may not prefer chili, so the Danville High School girls basketball team will offer a hotdog kids meal.

For the chili lovers, a $10 tasting ticket includes visits to the booths of 25 cooks, all vying for the title of People’s Choice. Each ticket holder will select their favorite. Our panel of judges – sports analyst Larry Vaught; Norton Center for the Arts Director Steve Hoffman; Kentucky Sports Radio Commentator Max Duffy; Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Kendall Clinton; and longtime radio personality Charlie Perry – have the challenge of naming the top three winners. See if your choice matches theirs!

The money raised helps the Kiwanis with year-round projects such as back-to-school supplies, and gifts of new clothing, coats, shoes, and small toys for children during the holidays. They also treat several local senior citizens with a luncheon and small gifts during the holidays. Individuals supported by the Kiwanis during this time are not served by any other groups. Many of Wilderness Trail Distillery’s business partners and Kiwanis’ supporters are sponsoring this event to spread some much-needed joy during the holiday season and throughout the year. Tasting tickets are available at the door. Winners will be announced at 2:30 p.m.
