Keeneland Library tours celebrate 100th Blue Grass Stakes

This year marks not only the 150th Kentucky Derby, but the 100th running of Keeneland’s signature Blue Grass Stakes, which first was held in 1911 (with some subsequent interruptions) at the Kentucky Association racetrack near downtown Lexington.

The Keeneland Library is celebrating the landmark with an exhibit that will include photos from the library’s collections and photos submitted by the public of past editions of the stakes. The reference and research library, housed at the Keeneland Association, is the world’s largest repository of the thoroughbred industry open to the public

Special tours will be offered during Derby Week, featuring a trackside element as well as an in-library component that will focus in part on the 22 Kentucky Derby winners who prepped in the Blue Grass Stakes. The ticketed tours can be booked online

In addition, the library, as part of its lecture series, is hosting author Avalyn Hunter on May 9 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss her new book, The Kentucky Oaks: 150 Years of Running for the Lilies. The presentation will be followed by a book signing and reception. See keeneland.com/library for details.
