Find a farmers’ market
With summer kicking in high gear, you can find a bounty of local seasonal food. There’s nothing quite like shopping at a farmers’ market, where you can buy the freshest, tastiest ingredients available.
Produce is often picked the same day, and you can also find locally sourced meat, farm eggs, flowers and more. It’s also a great opportunity to get to know local farm families personally to ask questions and learn about their farming practices.
“Kentucky’s local food movement is real and it’s visible in Kentucky’s thriving farmers’ market scene,” says Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles. “This movement is led by Kentucky Proud, the official state brand for Kentucky agricultural product. Kentucky’s community of farmers’ markets enables Kentuckians to support local farmers and get healthy, fresh food at the same time.”
Quarles adds, “With more than $10 million in gross sales reported last year by vendors at markets in 113 counties, we have a lot to celebrate within this sector of agriculture.”
