2018 Photo Contest winners

FIRST PLACE - Ryan Russell captured the Abraham Lincoln Bridge in Louisville using a drone camera with long exposure to get light trails of cars, with a low ISO to ensure the bridge lights didn’t overpower the photo.

Readers submitted more than 1,400 photos across five categories in this year’s Kentucky Living Photo Contest. Here you’ll find the best of the best. Category winners were selected by our panel of professional photographers. Take a look at these amazing images!

Photo Sharks

 

FIRST PLACE -Michael Ingram, Morgantown, wins the top category prize for this photo of his daughter, Lily, in the pantry at South Union Shaker Village in Auburn. Ingram is a member of Warren RECC.

 

SECOND PLACE – As pretty as a painting. Karen Jones, Danville, member of Inter-County Energy, took this photo of her rooster, Hook, with his hen, Tori. She says, “Silver-laced Wyandottes make such lovely subjects and the snow enhances their beauty.”

 

THIRD PLACE – Taken during a snowstorm on the family farm, Kelli Sparks, Hillsboro, member of Fleming-Mason Energy, submitted this photo of a cow from her herd.

 

Serene Scenes

 

FIRST PLACE – Mike Svach, Union, member of Owen Electric, took this picture of Dog Slaughter Falls in late September 2017, located near Cumberland Falls in Daniel Boone National Forest.

 

SECOND PLACE – Tammy Hammons, Elkfork, went fishing in the fog with her husband, Kenny, at Cave Run Lake and came away with this award-winning photo. The Hammonses are members of Licking Valley RECC.

 

THIRD PLACE – Julie Barrick, Alvaton, found this lovely owl on her farm. “This was my first time to see an owl there,” says Barrick, member of Warren RECC.

 

Uniquely Kentucky

 

FIRST PLACE – Buddy Dobbins, Berea, member of Blue Grass Energy, took this action shot at the Split Rock Jumping Tour in Paris.
SECOND PLACE – Mike Svach, Union, member of Owen Electric, notches his second win with this photo of the Rabbit Hash General Store, which was rebuilt and reopened in March 2017 after a fire the year prior.
THIRD PLACE – Does anything say Kentucky more than a horse farm? Josh Lowe, Versailles, took this beautiful photo of the stallion barn at the historic Manchester Farm in Lexington.

Hometown Eats

 

FIRST PLACE – Westen Richardson worked hard to grown this nearly 22-pound cabbage. Laura Richardson took the photo on the family farm in West Paducah. The Richardsons are members of Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation.
SECOND PLACE – This corn almost looks too good to eat—almost. Brad Bruton, Glasgow, member of Farmers RECC, took this photo of corn at the farmers market.

 

Ashley Crupper, Paris, submitted these apples picked in Tollesboro. She says, “Picking apples was always a holiday for my Pappaw. He was so proud of his trees.”
