Flying From Home

Stanford author and seventh-generation Kentuckian Angela Correll introduces us to the jet-set world of flight attendant Annie Taylor, an independent woman leading a fast-paced, big-city lifestyle, in her first novel, Grounded (Koehler Books, $16.95, www.amazon.com).

On the surface Annie seems to have it all—a high-flying career that takes her to glamorous places, a New York City lifestyle, and the “perfect” boyfriend. But a sudden layoff from her job and a realization that the boyfriend is far from perfect quickly shows Annie that her life is not all it seems, and instead of racing toward a bright future, she’s actually running away from the past.

Feeling her life has fallen apart, Annie returns to her Kentucky childhood home seeking to reconcile her past and rebuild her future. As she comes to grips with her own issues, Annie is faced with a farm in disrepair, a stubborn, ailing, shotgun-wielding grandmother, and conflicting emotions about the boy she left behind so many years ago.  When Annie is forced to choose between her past and the future, will she return to her jet-set ways or will she stay grounded?

In addition to writing, Correll owns a shop on Stanford’s Main Street selling handcrafted goat milk soap and other local products, partners with her husband, Jess, in a farm-to-table restaurant promoting food produced in a humane, sustainable, and natural way, and combines her passion for hospitality and historic preservation by renovating historic homes into guesthouses.
