Please let me know where I can buy the plant amsonia, I have a friend that is a landscaper and she can not find it at any of her greenhouses, I would appreciate any info you can share with me, I appreciate anything you can tell me about this plant, thank you for your help.

Hi, Carolyn: Amsonia hubrichtii commonly referred to as Blue Star is an herbaceous perennial. This low maintenance plant performs best when grown in full sun to part shade. Powdery blue flowers emerge during the spring and last for 3-4 weeks. It has airy foliage that turns a brilliant yellow in the fall. Amsonia dies back to the ground during the winter months but is well worth planting for its 3 season interest. At maturity it can reach 2-3 feet tall and wide. Since your friend has not had any luck finding this perennial you may want to contact your local nurseries and garden centers to see if they carry this plant or would be willing to try to find it for you. Growers are in the business of growing and if they do not grow the plant then they will not have it available but garden centers purchase from many different growers so you may have better luck going this route. You can also contact your County Cooperative Extension Service to see if they have any local suggestions. If you can not find this plant locally we at the Plant Kingdom in Louisville do carry this plant and currently have them in stock.
