The Gardener’s Answer
Hi, Gayle. Evergreens provide year-round interest for Kentucky gardeners. They also provide food and shelter for our feathery friends. There are dwarf evergreen options suitable for your space, but the available sunlight will be an important factor when choosing the right plant. Here are a few suggestions: ‘Green Gem’ and ‘Suffruticosa’ are good Boxwood options. Inkberry Holly ‘Compacta’ and ‘Blue Star’ Juniper are sun loving choices. Chamaecyparis ‘Golden Charm’ grows chartreuse, thread-like needles and Abelia ‘Kaleidoscope’ provides colorful evergreen foliage. Dwarf Mahonia and evergreen Azaleas are options for part sun locations. Visit your local garden center to see what appeals to you and will do well in your space. I hope this gives you some ideas to consider.
