Out of the Way Cafe
At the end of the road in Raywick, you’ll find Missy’s
When Missy Luckett decided to open Missy’s ‘Out of the Way’ Cafe, at the dead end of a farm road in rural Raywick, her dad “Buddy” and others said,“You are 100% crazy,” she recalls. That was nearly 20 years ago, and the eclectic restaurant is still going strong, even with nontraditional hours, open just three days a week.
She built a small square building, added a deck, a porch, another room and more tables over the years. “Now, we seat about 100 people. There’s usually an hour and half wait—please be patient with us, as my kitchen is pretty small,” says Luckett.
There’s stuff hanging on the walls and from the ceiling—“I’ve not had a yard sale since I opened the place,” Luckett laughs. That’s part of what draws people to Missy’s Cafe, which is served by Inter-County Energy.
The other is the food. “Steak Nicole, named after my daughter, and the unique SOBs—for South of the Border—are so popular that we go through 600–800 potatoes a week. They are basically souped-up potato skins using a full potato,” says Luckett. The pure ribeye burgers are ground at Loretta Foodland by local butcher Donnie Miles, from special-order whole ribeye.
Missy’s Cafe is at 880 Horseshoe Bend Road, and opens at 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
