The Nonesuch fairy tale | The Glitz at Irish Acres
WITH SPARKLING LIGHTS AND FLOATING ORBS stuffed with cellophane that reflect in mirrors, The Glitz is an unexpected gem in rural Kentucky.
It started when Bonnie Hannigan sold antiques from a horse stall at their Ashland home. She and husband, Arch, and daughters dreamed of expanding in the old Nonesuch schoolhouse, near Versailles. Irish Acres Gallery of Antiques opened in 1986 and The Glitz Restaurant in 1988.
“My sister and I have spent our entire careers in the business; it’s a lifetime labor of love,” says Emilie, who with her sister Jane, continues to operate the family business. There’s antique furniture, porcelain, silver, artwork, and women’s boutique items and gift wear.
“My daughter, Anna, has joined us and enjoys our family’s tradition of welcoming people to our business that we are passionate about, providing a unique experience of browsing the antique gallery and having a freshly prepared, seasonal three-course luncheon,” she says.
The Spiced Apple Refresher that’s made and bottled in-house starts each lunch, served 11 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday (December is Tuesday–Saturday). “Fall is one of our favorite seasons,” says Emilie. “You may find our Golden Harvest Bisque, Tuscan Pork Polenta and Pumpkin Cheesecake with Praline sauce, to name a few.” Don’t miss the signature dessert, the Nonesuch Kiss!
The Kentucky Proud business at 4205 Fords Mill Road, Versailles, is open April through December. Reservations are highly suggested, and holidays fill up quickly.
