Bluegrass Country Estate is a first-class bed and breakfast in Oldham County just outside of LaGrange in the equestrian community L’Esprit. The life-size horse statues in the courtyard in front of the house let visitors know this is a place where not only are people welcome, but horses, too. Just in case guests want to bring their own horses, a nearby stable with eight stalls, a wash shed, and pasture are close at hand. Riding trails are available for the use of guests only.

There are many interesting and fun things to see and do related to horses, including a visit to Metzger’s Country Store in Simpsonville. The 7,000-square-foot store has a horse department that includes English and Western tack, barn equipment, supplements, feed, horse bedding, and trailers for horse hauling.

The store even has a mobile track truck that can often be seen at Churchill Downs and Keeneland. It is fully stocked with everything that trainers, jockeys, and exercise riders need.

A good place to grab breakfast is at Keeneland’s Track Kitchen. It’s open seven days a week from 6-11 a.m., except holidays. During Keeneland’s racing season and horse sales, the kitchen has expanded hours from 5 a.m.-7 p.m. and includes a lunch and dinner menu.
