Kentucky Main Streets

Main Street isn’t just the name of a downtown route. It’s also a program that benefits historic districts across the state. Kentucky Main Street offers local organizations resources and expert help with program development to preserve downtown spaces and support business. “We are economic development that’s based in historic preservation,” says Kitty Dougoud, who leads the Kentucky Main Street program. “We’re advocating not only for your buildings, but also for your stories, your communities, your legacy businesses and your new businesses.” The best part? “Everybody can start that process in their community if they want to.” In honor of Kentucky Main Street’s 45th anniversary this year, here are just a few local programs improving quality of life in their communities.
