The Story of the Blunderbuss and Charlotte Mentelle

A Blunderbuss is a type of firearm designed to fire a spread of shot that was used in the late 18th century. Charlotte Mentelle carried a Blunderbuss from France to America in the 1790s. In 1820 Charlotte opened a girls finishing school in Lexington. Dr. Randy Runyon will discuss Charlotte’s life story. The Blunderbuss is on display at Waveland State Historic Site.
