Berea College presents the 51st annual Celebration of Traditional Music from October 10–October 13, 2024, celebrating home-made music as passed on from person to person in the Appalachian Region and the musicians who play it. Performers include:
Guy Davis, blues. Thursday night Stephenson Memorial concert
Shelia Kay Adams, Appalachian ballads. Lifetime Achievement Award
The Alum Ridge Boys and Ashlee, bluegrass and old time
Carla Gover, banjo, song, and dance
Anne Lough, dulcimer. L. Allen Smith performer
Dr. Kathy Bullock, gospel
Randy Wilson, banjo and old time
Phoebe White, Western songs and yodeling
Kent Gilbert and the Union Church Shape Note Singers
Dance: The Alum Ridge Boys and Ashlee, with West Virginia caller Lou Maiuri
Ted Olson, symposium speaker on early recordings of Appalachian music
Events take place across the campus and include dancing, jams, workshops, lectures, dinner-on-the-grounds, and a Saturday morning Kidzone at Woods Penn Commons with Heather Dent, Lili Shelton, and Randy Wilson. All events are free to students. Daytime events are free to all. Evening concerts are $10; the Saturday evening dance is $8. CTM is sponsored by the L. Allen Smith Memorial Fund, directed by Elizabeth DiSavino, and is planned and presented by the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center, the CTM Committee, the Berea College Music Department, and the students of the Berea College Folk-Roots Ensemble.
