Reliable, Resilient and Responsive
WHEN THE EMCEE of the Kentucky Electric Cooperatives’ 75th Annual Meeting in November asked banquet attendees to turn toward photographer Tim Webb as he straddled a ladder at the back of the room, it renewed the group photograph tradition of the statewide co-op association.
Our smiles were wide because we finally could get together as representatives of Kentucky’s electric co-ops after 20 months of pandemic restrictions.
In addition to co-op and community updates, and briefings from elected leaders, the event provided necessary training and valuable collaboration for local co-op directors, managers and attorneys.
Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft honored co-op contributions and emphasized the reliability of the electric grid.
My update included a strong financial report from the association and our United Utility Supply Cooperative, a leading material supply organization serving the rural electric market in 17 states. Inflationary pressures and supply-chain disruptions demand constant attention. I hope you will read on page 10 about former Kentucky Farm Bureau executive David Beck receiving the highest honor of Kentucky co-ops, the Distinguished Rural Kentuckian award.
Our meeting reaffirmed what Kentucky co-ops realized when they first joined forces in June 1947. As our annual report theme indicates, co-ops are “Reliable, Resilient and Responsive.” When co-ops work together, we can more efficiently and effectively serve co-op members.
