Merry and bright

May your holidays be filled with memories and  joyful giving

As my wife and I unpack our Christmas decorations, a flood of memories reminds me why this is my favorite time of year. I love the lights, the food, spending time with family, and attending church together on Christmas Eve.

I can still feel my childhood excitement as I waited for my bigger-than-life grandfather to call my name to come to the tree for my present. I can still taste the pancakes my grandmother fixed on Christmas morning. There is nothing in this world better than homemade pancakes made in a cast-iron skillet with Karo syrup.

One of my joys has always been to find the perfect gift for our daughter, from a certain Barbie dollhouse to just the right American Girl doll. The joy in children’s eyes is a reminder to help make Christmas bright for those who are less fortunate.

As a proud member of your community, your cooperative and its employees help to make Christmas bright. They adopt families, raise money, donate resources, and support local charitable efforts, as you will learn about in this issue that celebrates giving. And, of course, your cooperative works very hard to make sure the lights stay on so you can celebrate.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and the happiest New Year. I pray you are able to spend time with family and friends. I hope you will have safe travels and will be able to help others in your community.

Finally, I want to thank you and your local electric cooperative for the opportunity to serve and produce this award-winning magazine. In the New Year, we will remain committed to bringing you great stories and features about Kentucky while providing you with important information concerning the future of energy.
