A thank-you to co-op members

WINCHESTER, STANTON, FRENCHBURG, BEDFORD, SHELBYVILLE

Good times. Good food. Good information. Even treats to take home. All this and more were part of Member Appreciation Days for both Clark Energy Co-op and Shelby Energy Co-op. The cooperatives even went into the communities they serve so members didn’t have to travel.

“Our members were so enthusiastic that we are going to make it an annual event each October, which is Cooperative Month,” said Paul Embs, president and CEO of Clark Energy, which serves Winchester, Stanton, and Frenchburg.

The event was also a success in Shelbyville and Bedford, two of the communities served by Shelby Energy.
 
“It was a great day of meeting with our members to show them how much we appreciate each and every one of them,” says Debbie Martin, president and CEO of Shelby Energy Co-op.
 

Renewable energy roundtable

DANVILLE

More than 60 people attended a forum in Danville on renewable energy hosted by Inter-County Energy Cooperative. The forum was a project of a collaborative group of employees from East Kentucky Power Co-op and its 16 member cooperatives (including Inter-County), as well as representatives from public interest groups.
 
During the two-hour forum, participants learned about the EnviroWatts program, which allows members to purchase energy created by the methane gas emitted from decaying trash in six Kentucky landfills.

The forum also included presentations on renewable energy sources, small group sessions to discuss what they had heard, and a question and answer session.

“This forum provided an excellent educational opportunity for the electric cooperatives, environmental advocates, and citizens to sit down face-to-face and discuss energy issues,” says Jim Jacobus, president and CEO of Inter-County Energy. “I think all in attendance have a better understanding of the importance of a more balanced energy supply through energy-efficiency programs and renewable energy options.”
