Creating memories
Enjoy Kentucky’s state parks, lakes, farms and festivals this spring
Do you have one of those days that you remember as very special? I’m not talking about the special days in our lives such as a wedding, birth of a child, or a child graduating from college. I’m talking about a day that is special for other reasons.
I have a day like that and it happened almost 30 years ago. I was a senior in high school and we were making plans for graduation and the next phase of our lives. We were off from school on one of those truly beautiful Kentucky spring days, so my friends and I decided to take advantage of the day by visiting Grayson Lake to spend the day diving off cliffs, swimming, and thinking about the good times.
It was a wonderful day. The weather was perfect. The temperature was approaching 80 with soft wispy clouds in the sky. We all piled into the ’84 Cutlass Supreme that I was driving at the time with blankets and snacks. There were probably 10 of us in about three cars, both boys and girls. Can it get much better than that?
That day was very special because of the people. I have moved from my hometown, but I love hearing from these people. My friends are amazing. They have become teachers, football coaches, loving mothers and fathers, business leaders and great citizens. I know that some of the Russell Class of 1988 read this magazine. I want to thank them for the friendship and love over the years.
Take advantage of this spring to plan your own special day. Across Kentucky, there are beautiful lakes, parks, and farms where teenagers get together to solidify the friendships they have and prepare for the rest of their lives. And, it’s a time for others to reconnect with old friends to ask how things are going.
