Honor, remember and respect our veterans
Products with a purpose
WILLIAMSTOWN
“A place of healing for our veterans.” That’s how Joe Montgomery, a consumer- member of Owen Electric, describes the new Patriots Landing and Operation Honor, a 501(c) (3) public charity Montgomery founded in 2015 to hire and provide veterans with valuable job skills.
“Our mission is to enhance the lives of veterans and their families, particularly veterans in rural areas that may not have easy access to programs in larger communities,” says Montgomery.
Their signature product is a veteran-crafted burial flag case.
“One day I was looking at some of the burial flag cases holding the flags of indigent veterans buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Williamstown. When I turned it over, it said: ‘Made in China.’ That did not feel right to me, so now our burial flag cases are handcrafted by our veterans. Each of our products, including our flag cases, is signed by the veteran who made it. The cases made by our veterans are the only burial flag cases offered at Arlington National Cemetery.”
Veterans also produce patriot crosses and “9 flags,” wooden American flags that appear battle-scarred with 9-mm shell casings as the stars. Learn more at OperationHonor.org.
