Atlas Machine & Supply expands
Field Machining Division headquarters in Hardinsburg
WALTER CHICK MUST HAVE felt he was taking the weight of the world on his shoulders in 1906 when he left his job as a timekeeper at the American Machine Company in Louisville to start his own company. His choice of the name “Atlas” for his business turned out to be on the mark, because 116 years later, it’s as strong as ever with eight facilities in four states.
In August, Atlas Machine & Supply Inc. announced it would construct a new facility at the Breckinridge County Industrial Park in Hardinsburg to serve as the headquarters for its expanding Field Machining Division, which performs on-site industrial repairs for manufacturers throughout the United States and beyond.
“The project will enable us to further strengthen our already solid partnership with the Breckinridge County Area Technology Center, Breckinridge County United and many others in the community,” says Richie Gimmel, president of the fourth-generation family business.
The facility will replace a smaller Atlas location in nearby Harned, both served by Meade County RECC.
“We have enjoyed working with Atlas as they have grown their operations in Breckinridge County,” says Marty Littrel, president and CEO of Meade County RECC. “We are proud to count them as a consumer-member of our electric cooperative.”
Atlas Machine & Supply helps to keep large-scale machines operational. The company also provides compressed air systems and services necessary for many manufacturers. Manufacturers rely on Atlas Machine for the repair and re-manufacture of industrial parts that keep their industrial plants running. The company services, manufactures and repairs machinery for customers principally in the manufacturing sector throughout the United States and worldwide.
“Reliability is a fundamental value for electric cooperatives,” says Todd Blackburn, Meade County RECC’s corporate compliance and external affairs director. “In a short period of time, Atlas Machine & Supply has become a trusted partner and we are energized by their confidence in our service area to improve efficiency and flexibility, attract and retain talent, and provide space for continued growth.”
