Spotz Gelato opens Scoop Shop in Shelbyville
Spotz Gelato’s new Scoop Shop is now open at 545 Main Street, Shelbyville.
The small-batch gelato, as well as sorbet, is made by hand with Kentucky Proud ingredients in the commercial kitchen on the Scott County farm of husband and wife team, Philip Enlow and Beth Richardson.
Flavors change daily, although they have created about 50 flavors that alternate with the season. Think cookies and cream, mint chocolate chip, vanilla bean, cotton candy, banana pudding, peanut butter, chocolate, Reese Cup cheesecake, and strawberry or blueberry sorbet.
There are scoops ($4 small, $6 large with one or two flavors), available in cups or waffle cones, milkshakes, floats, affogato (gelato with coffee), Italian sodas, and Sammies (two cookies with gelato sandwiched between), in addition to a variety of toppings. Take a pint home for $10 or celebrate with the Gelato Bar to Go with two pints, four toppings and comes wrapped for $25.
Gelato is an Italian-style ice cream, with less fat and less air so it is denser which creates a more intense flavor.
Social distancing measures are taken and there’s even a curbside pickup spot if you wish to order ahead. Just text the store with the number provided online when you arrive.
Enlow and Richardson began Spotz Gelato in 2013 and you may recall seeing their hot pink, polka dot vintage trailers at festivals and events across Kentucky, which Enlow renovates and paints. You can rent a Spotz Truck for your private event.
Spotz Gelato also has Scoop Shop locations in Versailles and Georgetown. Summer hours for each store are noon until 9 p.m, seven days a week.
