The Gray Ghost And Route 66

As we wait for spring, it’s a great time to curl up with a good book. Imagine yourself at the table with Kentucky authors to discuss their careers, stroll the streets of a quiet town on Route 66, hop on an imaginary horse with the famed Gray Ghost of the Civil War, or plan some dinner menus with some famous Kentuckians.

Readers are invited to pull up a chair and eavesdrop on the writers roundtable in L. Elisabeth Beattie’s Conversations with Kentucky Writers II (University Press of Kentucky, $29.95). In this sequel, Beattie introduces 16 more Kentucky wordsmiths, providing an intimate glimpse into their personalities, their careers, and their histories. Learn what influenced these authors to become writers, how they feel about their works, and the details of each one’s creative process. Listen in as Beattie asks both personal and professional questions of each writer and feel their words come alive on the page.

Popular Kentucky author Annie Jones brings readers another delightful read with Cupid’s Corner
(Waterbrook Press, $6.95). This second installment in Jones’ Route 66 series is set in the tiny fictitious town of Cupid’s Corner, Kansas, otherwise known as
"Hitchin’ City, USA.” Jenny Fox, the young, single, and dedicated mayor of Cupid’s Corner, decides to restore the glory days of Route 66 and the town’s wedding-capital image with a summer wed-a-thon of 66 marriages in 58 days. Add in Jenny’s ex-fiancé and a “tall, dark, and humble” newspaper editor for a whirlwind of romantic chaos sure to bring a smile to your face.

Northern Kentucky University professor of history Dr. James A. Ramage delves into the legend of Confederate Colonel John Singleton Mosby in Gray Ghost (University Press of Kentucky, $30.00). Follow Mosby on his daring raids as he cleverly deceives the Union soldiers time after time. Discover how Mosby’s childhood fostered both his successes and his failures. Complete with maps and illustrations, any history buff is sure to appreciate this account of a great military genius.
