Seasonings

From cover to Crawford, this months magazine takes its lead from the uplifting aim of the season.

Who knew that so many Kentuckians spend time posing as Santas helpers that theyve got a word for it? Take a look at the lead feature to get an idea of how clausing specialists make serious work out of spreading cheer.

The Future of Electricity column takes a lighter look at new ideas and inventions that supply electricity. Who knew that dancers could produce power by hopping on the disco floor?

We also want to keep top of the mind how we can help others in our communities. The Quilts and Other Kindnesses feature lists groups that can get you started volunteering in a worthwhile work near your home.

In the Great Outdoors column Dave Shuffett highlights one of Kentuckys best features, its natural beauty, with the top five must-hike trails in the state.

Last months Byron Crawford column told us that the woolly worms were predicting a cold winter. This months Smart Health column tells you how to bundle up to protect yourself from those temperatures.

And Byron Crawford closes the last month of the year with a memory of a true Kentucky Christmas.

Writing about cooking
This month we welcome a new writer for the Chefs Choice cooking column. Sarah Fritschner has written several books and worked as food editor of The Courier-Journal in Louisville for 24 years. Shes currently editor of Edible Louisville magazine, which promotes locally produced food. She is also coordinator of Louisvilles Farm to Table program, which was formed to bring consumers together with local food producers. Her passion for supporting community farmers fits right in with the local focus of Kentucky Living.
