Good For Business
Leader of the packaging
Hopkinsville
In its October Kentucky Living local section, Pennyrile Electric Co-op based in Hopkinsville featured a story on the Hopkinsville plant of Free-Flow Packaging International. The 148,000-square-foot plant makes protective packaging materials and equipment, and employs about 50 people. The company is headquartered in California, with Hopkinsville as its largest facility, which can produce nine semi-trucks a day of loose-fill. The company started in 1967 and by 1989 had developed a recycling system to allow use of post-consumer packaging, and was the first to use this content in its loose-fill. Now, the company has developed the next generation of biodegradable packaging.

Sharpening linemen’s skills
Flemingsburg
Each year, Fleming-Mason Energy Co-op based in Flemingsburg helps keep its linemen’s safety skills sharp with a dedicated day of training. This year’s event was joined by linemen from nearby Licking Valley Rural Electric Co-op, based in West Liberty. Activities for the 30 line workers included training both in the classroom by specialists from the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives as well as outside on poles simulating real-world situations.
