Buffalo Trace Distillery is home to bourbons you cannot find in the liquor store, such as Pappy Van Winkle and George T. Stagg. A visit there won’t yield a special release of the good stuff, but you will learn why its whiskey dominates the awards circuit.

Part museum, part 1930s working distillery, the former George T. Stagg Distillery feels like a living, breathing facility with barrels peering through stone warehouse windows and a Southern porch that screams for Willie Nelson strumming a guitar. Some say a certain part of the distillery is haunted, but if the whiskey is any indication, the ghosts are friendly.
