Come be a part of a sport that is American as apple pie, the BB&T All-American Soap Box Derby in Bowling Green on May 21–22. Youth soap box derby has run nationally for more than 75 years teaching youngsters some of the basic skills of workmanship, the spirit of competition, and the perseverance to continue a project once it has begun. Mountain Laurel Festival
The Mountain Laurel Festival, founded in 1931, celebrates the beauty of spring and the blooming of the Mountain Laurel. The festival includes a parade, folk singing and dancing, and tours of the mountains. The highlight is the coronation of the festival queen. Come to Pineville on May 27-30 and celebrate spring. Annual Llama & Alpaca Daze
May 29 is your chance to get up close with a llama or alpaca, at the Annual Llama and Alpaca Daze in Georgetown. Numerous llama farms will showcase their animals from the babies to the stately adults. One might even give you a kiss. Vendors will sell fiber, llama-related merchandise, and food will be available.
