While most tick bites are just a nuisance, some can be dangerous. Here are some tips to keep you safe:
- For the skin, spray or apply a repellent that contains at least 20 to 30 percent DEET.
- For gear, tents, and clothing, apply products containing the chemical permethrin.
- Wear light-colored clothing to better see ticks, and long pants.
- Consult a physician if you feel symptoms, which can occur as late as one to two weeks after a bite and infection.
