Millions watch and listen to Michael Johnathon and other grass-roots musicians on the internationally acclaimed WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour, set to broadcast their 500th show in September from Lexington. Johnathon’s latest success and passion is his first play, Walden: The Ballad of Thoreau, being performed in thousands of schools and community theaters nationwide, and the script given to them to promote the art form

Preserving Great Saltpetre Cave
Volunteers are working to preserve the 306-acre cave area in Rockcastle County in southcentral Kentucky known as Great Saltpetre Preserve. Discovered in 1799, the cave was used in the early 1800s to mine saltpeter to make gunpowder, for the indoor Renfro Valley Barn Dance in the 1940s, and now owned by the Rockcastle Karst Conservancy, a nonprofit association that plans to protect and preserve it for educational purposes
